Jerri Simpson, RN-BC, OCN, has received the 2016 Excellence in Best Practice Award from the American Cancer Society. An Infusion Nurse at West Cancer Center’s Corinth location, Jerri was instrumental in the local development and implementation of the American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better Program – a free national public service program created in 1989 to benefit female cancer patients.Read More
Lung Cancer Screening Program Launched to Bridge Access to Care in Memphis
(Memphis, TN)—November 2, 2016 — A new initiative to help get current and former smokers screened for lung cancer is launching locally in Memphis. The local program is part of a three-year project overseen by the American Cancer Society, Christ Community Health Services, a federally qualified health center (FQHC), and West Cancer Center to develop and implement a high quality lung cancer screening and navigation program for patients facing obstacles to care. It is supported by a $1.25 million grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation’s Bridging Cancer CareTM initiative, which focuses on pilot projects in select southeastern U.S. states with the highest lung cancer burden.
The initiative will be implemented by Christ Community Health Services at their Orange Mound location. West Cancer Center is partnering in the effort to provide screening, navigation and treatment.Read More

MEMPHIS, TENN., October 12, 2016 – West Cancer Center has received reaccreditation by the QOPI Certification Program (QCP™), an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). QCP builds on ASCO’s Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) and provides a three-year certification for outpatient hematology-oncology practices that meet nationally recognized standards for quality care.
Just in: New Avon Foundation-funded Breast Cancer Study Finds Black Women are Dying at Higher Rates than White Women
Study cites significant decrease, however, in the disparity in Memphis, Philadelphia and Boston markets over the study period
NEW YORK, NY – October 3, 2016 – Today, the Avon Foundation for Women released a new study on the Black:White disparities in breast cancer mortality in the 50 largest cities in the United States between 2005 and 2014, which was conducted by Sinai Urban Health Institute in collaboration with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and funded by the Avon Foundation for Women.Read More
West Cancer Center’s Blood & Marrow Transplant Program Receives FACT Accreditation
MEMPHIS, TENN., September 15, 2016 – West Cancer Center announced today that its Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT) Program has received accreditation for both autologous and allogenic transplantation from the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT). Acknowledged in the industry as the threshold for excellence in cellular therapy, including bone marrow or cord blood transplant, FACT accreditation is based upon compliance with the most comprehensive standards in the field. The BMT Program, a collaboration between West Cancer Center, Methodist Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, has achieved this prestigious standard in just over a year since its establishment.Read More

CMS Announces West Cancer Center Selected for Initiative Promoting Better Cancer Care
CMS Oncology Care Model attracts almost twice the expected number of physician group practices
MEMPHIS, Tenn., June 30, 2016: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that it has selected West Cancer Center as one of nearly 200 physician group practices and 17 health insurance companies to participate in a care delivery model that supports and encourages higher quality, more coordinated cancer care. The Medicare arm of the Oncology Care Model includes more than 3,200 oncologists and will cover approximately 155,000 Medicare beneficiaries nationwide.
