At West Cancer Center, we understand that comprehensive cancer care entails much more than your physician visit and treatment planning. Because of this, we offer a variety of patient support opportunities – ensuring you receive the holistic care necessary to fight your melanoma or cutaneous cancer diagnosis.
Support Groups at West Cancer Center
West Cancer Center is proud to partner with the AIM at Melanoma Foundation to provide education materials, events and resources for those facing a melanoma diagnosis. An international organization dedicated to advancing the treatment of melanoma and resources to support patients and their caregivers, the AIM at Melanoma Foundation selected West Cancer Center as an official host site and partner for the Melanoma: Patient & Caregiver Symposium in the fall of 2016.
Advocacy and Outreach
While no cancer can be prevented with 100% certainty, there are numerous measures you can take to reduce your risk for developing skin cancer, including melanoma.
Prevention tips recommended from your West Cancer Center team include:
- Do not burn or tan. Avoid intentional tanning, as well as tanning beds.
- Seek shade when sun’s rays are the strongest, typically between 10 am and 4 pm.
- Wear protective clothing, including long-sleeved shirt, pants, wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses, when outside.
- Generously apply sunscreen. Use a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50 or higher for protection from UVA and UVB radiation.
