Jerri Simpson instrumental in development of on-site “Look Good Feel Better” Program

Jerri Simpson, RN-BC, OCN, has received the 2016 Excellence in Best Practice Award from the American Cancer Society. An Infusion Nurse at West Cancer Center’s Corinth location, Jerri was instrumental in the local development and implementation of the American Cancer Society’s Look Good Feel Better Program – a free national public service program created in 1989 to benefit female cancer patients.

The program provides these patients the opportunity to learn expert make-up tips from certified cosmetologists. Through the free, 2-hour class, each patient receives tips from licensed professionals, as well as a complimentary cosmetic kit for practice. In addition to complimentary services and giveaways, the Look Good Feel Better Program aims to help female cancer patients not only improve their self-image and confidence by teaching hands-on beauty techniques, but also manage the sometimes appearance-related side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

In just three years, Jerri and the Corinth team have grown their site’s Look Good Feel Better Program into one of the highest performing – and most successful – in the region. Under Jerri’s leadership, the Corinth team recruited licensed cosmetologists, as well as numerous patients who regularly engage and participate in the facility’s Look Good Feel Better sessions.

As Lillie Willis, Program Manager for Mission Delivery for the Mid-South Division of the American Cancer Society, said, “Jerri is a caring health care provider who puts her patients first and strives to give each patient the support and services they need to help them through their treatments. She has proven that when a health care provider makes personal contact with each patient concerning additional, supportive services, they are more likely to respond positively and engage in these opportunities.”

Thank you, Jerri, and the entire Corinth team for your support of our patients and their loved ones!
